| A Brief History of
His Place The concept of His Place started with college professor Bill Baker spoke to an area-wide youth rally about starting a "His Place" as a drop-in center for the growing number of street people in Pittsburgh. For it's first 28 years, His Place operated out of a storefront on Western Avenue in the West Allegheny neighborhood of Pittsburgh's north side. Since 1976, it has had only two directors: Rick Weiss (1976-1993) who is now the Director of Family Ministries at West Hills Christian Church, and his wife Debe (1993-present). For the first 28 years of its operation, His Place operated out of a storefront located at 945 Western Avenue in the West Allegheny neighborhood on the north side of Pittsburgh. Since 1976, it has had only two Directors: Rick Weiss (1976-1993), who is now Associate Pastor at West Hills Christian Church, and his wife, Debe (1993-present) In 1998 the old First Christian Church of Pittsburgh (formerly First Christian Church of Allegheny) dissolved, and according to the bylaws of that church 50% of the sales price of the church building: $145,000 was given to His Place, earmarked by the Board of Directors for the purchase of a new building, to accommodate the growing programs at the center which was now too small. In 2003, the Board purchased a much larger three-story building at 1911 Rhine Street in the Spring Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, close to where many children participating in the His Place youth programs reside. In 2008, His Place began it's newest area of ministry: homeless outreach, which has been growing ever since.
