It seems there’s no good news these days. And at His Place, we’re frankly tired of it. Which is why we’re glad to introduce a new regular update highlighting the ways your support helps His Place.  We hope it brightens your week the way your support helps brighten the lives of those touched by His Place.

Washington, DC - Apr. 4, 2009

Last Saturday, with a group of kids far too awake at 6 in the morning, we headed to Washington D.C. for a whirlwind tour of the city. The trip provided the opportunity for the kids to see a world outside of the littered streets and abandoned apartments that mark the neighborhoods they live in, as they walked through the parks teeming with cherry blossoms. Staring up at the Lincoln Memorial, standing where Dr. King declared his dream, history came to life in a personal, powerful way. We were reminded of what each of our kids can accomplish as we peered through the gates on the White House lawn and saw, firsthand, the gloves of Muhammad Ali. And as an added bonus, they got to see Kermit the Frog and Oscar the Grouch at the Smithsonian Museum of American History. All the activities meant plenty of walking, but the kids were remarkably well behaved. The trip was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to learn and grow closer as a group, and as always, was made possible by our supporters like you.
